2023

BEDFORD —On June 7, the HEB ISD Education Foundation presented Superintendent Dr. Joe Harrington with a check for $87,652.54 to fund innovative grant requests submitted by teachers from across the HEB ISD school district. District leadership, community partners, and foundation board members joined Baxter, an emotional support Golden Retriever provided by a grant awarded in 2021, to celebrate the accomplishment. To date, the HEB ISD Education Foundation has funded more than $1.7 million in grant requests since its inception in 1995.

While the HEB ISD Education Foundation supports the school district in numerous ways, one of most impactful aspects of its mission is to support teachers with dynamic innovate ways to teach students, which traditionally fall outside of the campus budget. Awarded grants are chosen based on a number of criteria, but the innovative nature of the submission is one of the more important considerations. Teachers and administrators are encouraged to submit ideas that enhance the learning experience in unique and innovative ways.

“Our mission calls for the foundation to raise and award private funds and community resources to support HEB ISD’s commitment to excellence in education,” says Chairwoman of the Board Shalyn Clark. “This effort to raise a record-setting amount will help fund innovative grants that enhance the learning experience for students across HEB ISD.”

In addition to the innovative grant program, the HEB ISD Education Foundation supports the school district in the following ways:

· Hosting the Awards of Excellence Ceremony. Hosted each spring, this event recognizes outstanding high school seniors in 14 fields of study from and their selected teacher mentors.

· Providing the Empowered to Excel Grant Prize Patrol at the end of each school year. In May 2023, the foundation delivered 33 grants across 27 HEB ISD classrooms and campuses for a total of $87,652. This brings the total investment in innovative education across the district to more than $1.7 million to date.

· Hosting the HEB ISD New Professionals Luncheon welcoming hundreds of new staff by providing lunch and an introduction to the HEB ISD Education Foundation.
